Cherokee Nation calendar of events for August

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Cherokee Nation hosts several events during the month of August, including the 67th Annual Cherokee National Holiday and the inauguration of Principal Chief-elect Chuck Hoskin Jr., Deputy Chief-elect Bryan Warner and eight members of the Council of the Cherokee Nation. Aug. 1

9 a.m. – The 67th annual Cherokee National Holiday co-ed softball tournament, men’s fast-pitch softball tournament and women’s fast-pitch softball tournament will be held at the Cherokee Nation Softball Fields, located on Cherokee street in Park Hill. Entry fee is $150 for co-ed tournament, $175 for men’s fast-pitch and $125 for women’s fast-pitch. Start times for each game will depend on the drawing of team brackets. 9 a.m. – Cherokee Nation hosts the championship events for the annual Traditional Native Games at One Fire Field, located west of the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex in Tahlequah. The celebration includes the powwow Friday and Saturday nights, the parade and State of the Nation address by Principal Chief-elect Chuck Hoskin Jr. on Saturday morning, and a fireworks show on Sunday night.
