Applications being accepted for BAFD’s Junior Fire Academy

04/02/2018 – If you are thinking of pursuing a career in the Fire Science field after high school, or are just curious about the Fire Service in general, then the Broken Arrow Fire Department’s Junior Fire Academy is for you.

The Broken Arrow Fire Department is currently accepting applications from qualified young men and women, live in the City of Broken Arrow, or attend school in Broken Arrow, and are between the ages of 12‐17 (some exceptions allowed).

The purpose of the Junior Fire Academy is to foster better communication between youth and firefighters through education. The Academy will create a core of well‐informed youth who possess greater insight into fire department practices and services. It is hoped that graduates of the Academy will share this new knowledge with other youth of the community as the opportunity arises. Everyone benefits from enhancing youth understanding of the role and function of the fire department.

The academy only has a limited number of openings (20), which are filled on a first come, first served basis. In order for the Fire Department to select the youth who will attend the Academy, the applicant must submit a short application, which needs to be filled out completely and returned to the Broken Arrow Fire Department. To be eligible to participate in the Academy, cadets must have no felony convictions.

The Broken Arrow Fire Department does not discriminate against any race, gender or religion. All cadets will provide their own lunch, water bottle and transportation to and from the Academy.

The Junior Fire Academy will be held at BAFD’s Training Center, located at 4205 E. Omaha St. The Academy runs July 9‐12.
