Mayor presents BA resident with Carnegie Medal for heroism

Mayor Craig Thurmond presented Broken Arrow resident Kali Allen with the Carnegie Medal, for attempting to rescue a man who had fallen into a frozen pond. The award was presented at  the June 17 meeting of the Broken Arrow City Council.

In January 2018, Allen jumped into action when he heard a man had fallen through ice into a deep pond in Catoosa. Allen was not able to grab the victim before he went under water. Allen continued rescue efforts by diving under the water himself to locate the victim. By this time, firefighters had responded and were able to pull Allen out of the water. The victim unfortunately was not able to be rescued, and Allen was treated for hypothermia.
