Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Involved Shooting

 

03/18/2019 – The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating a trooper-involved shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of March 17, 2019. At approximately 12:30 a.m. within the city of Blair, Oklahoma, Trooper Josh Tinsley performed a traffic stop on a driver identified as Chris Ryan Mills. Mills was found by Trooper Tinsley to be operating his vehicle while his license was revoked.

While attempting to place Mills in custody for the offense, Mills became combative. In the course of the altercation, Trooper Tinsley discharged his firearm. A record check revealed Mills had nine prior felony convictions, including assault and battery on a police officer and a Jackson County felony DUI in 2018 for which he is currently serving supervised probation.

The OHP investigative unit processed the scene and will continue their inquiry into the incident. Trooper Tinsley has been placed on department-mandated administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
