Christmas in July

Owasso Community Resources continues to see a rise in the number of families needing our services. Your renewed support is strategically critical as we look to the second half of 2017. In the first six months of this year, we have seen a 25 percent increase in families seeking help from the Food Pantry and 58 percent increase in families needing help with rent assistance. We have had a 33 percent spike in the number of new families seeking emergency help.

In the month of June, we nearly doubled the number of families coming to the food pantry which depleted our food supplies. The community overwhelmingly responded with both food and cash donations to bring our food inventory to a manageable level. Through June we have picked up 65 tons of food from five area grocers. We are on pace to far exceed last years 103 tons we picked up.

We anticipate this increase in need for the services we provide to continue until the end of the year. Your past gifts have meant so much to Owasso Community Resources and the families we serve. We need your renewed support as we go forward to provide groceries, utility payments and rent to keep families in their homes.

Recently, a local woman brought a donation of food in and saw a young child clinging to her mother who was seeking help for the first time at OCR. It brought tears to this woman’s eyes; she returned the next day with another food donation.

She was so motivated to make a difference she reached out to friends and encouraged them to collect canned food to help feed hungry children. We cannot continue to meet the increasing need without your support. In order to maintain our ability to provide these emergency services for those in our community, we have set a goal to raise $60,000 by Dec. 25, 2017.
