Cherokee Heritage Center offers cultural classes promoting traditional Cherokee art

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Heritage Center is hosting a series of cultural classes designed to preserve and promote traditional Cherokee art. The Saturday workshops are held once a month and provide hands-on learning opportunities with various traditional art forms.

The Cherokee beadwork class, set for Sept. 10, focuses on two-needle applique and is led by Cherokee National Treasure Tonia Hogner-Weavel. The class is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $40 to participate, which includes all materials.

Registration is also available for the Oct. 1 class on stickball sticks led by Cherokee Nation citizen Victor Wildcat. The class is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $65 to participate. All materials are provided.
